Feed the forest was my final major project at Plymouth university in 2013.
The goal was to build a story through imagery which at first glance seemed innocent and sweet. Only once the viewee took a deeper look were the macabre nature of the work could be seen. This was achieved through the vibrant use of colour and the apparent personification of the innocent creatures.
The story centred around the 'Motherwitch' whom acted as a juxtaposition for Mother Nature. Her children, the pixies, acted by conforming to her bidding to feed the forest, feeding her. Her children in this story have no comprehension of their actions, they are innocent and this is all they know.
The work was showcased at the D&AD New Blood festival in 2013.
I was fortunate enough to be included in an article that highlighted some of the top illustration talent from the event. The article can be read here.
